Hi, I’m Helen.
I’ve been a business owner & hairstylist for over 30 years while also having a passion for nutrition. Nutrition has always fascinated me. In fact, many people don’t realize that if your health is compromised your hair will suffer!
I always wanted to learn more about nutrition and even started taking some courses early on, but at the time I needed to focus on raising my kids and this wasn’t an option. Throughout my life I’ve read a plethora of books and articles & listened to tons of podcasts & webinars researching health and wellness. Finally in 2020 I made the decision to go back to school. I am now a nutrition & supplement consultant and a Certified Keto / Carnivore health coach accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).
MY HEALTH JOURNEY
Growing up I was raised in a Greek household where we ate an abundance of fatty, Greek foods. This includes lots of meat, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, whole grains, legumes, and always dessert. I was taught that this was the right way to eat but as I started my health journey, I realized that some of those foods were not optimal for my health.
I tried so many different diets, but they were never sustainable as I always gained the weight back. I never stopped reading and researching things on my own and was eager to learn about new science which led me to the ketogenic diet.
I made many mistakes along the way but I finally got it right after getting the right education & have been living this lifestyle for the past 7 years.
Despite the fact that keto has recently surfaced as a “new diet”, it has actually been used for many years as a therapeutic approach for seizures, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. This therapeutic approach is the high-fat version of keto, whereas my approach is specifically targeted for weight loss focusing on higher protein, moderate fat, and low carb.
I eat, breathe, live this healthy lifestyle, and always try to push myself to limits that I never thought was possible. I have found easy ways to incorporate this lifestyle not only into my own life, but my family’s as well, and with that, I find motivation to help others and always try to remind them that this lifestyle is not some crazy fad diet. Consistency is key!
My father.
As a young girl, I remember my father getting into a really bad car accident and not being able to work for quite some time. His doctor frequently prescribed him copious amounts of medications to help with his pain. I had always wondered why he was taking so many pills and one day when I went to my father’s doctor’s appointment, I questioned the doctor. I explicitly asked him why he needed to give my father so many pills. His response was, “I don’t question your profession, so don’t question mine!”
After that day, I was so furious that I decided to research each of these medications in depth. Needless to say, many of them were useless and were the culprit on my father’s health! It was like a snowball effect with the medications where he would need medication to counteract the other medications. My father begged me to help him find a new doctor who could help relieve all of the pain he was feeling. His symptoms included: numbness and pain in his legs and fingers, mood swings, weakness, lightheadedness, disoriented at times, and would get really angry for no reason.
From all of the research and schooling that I’ve done, I can now say that I am convinced that the medications in conjunction with his high carb diet were the causes that led him to develop Dementia/Alzheimer’s which is now known as Type 3 Diabetes of the brain.
Because of all of this, my research and dedication is in honor of my father, Stefanos.
